Royal Huey

Royal Huey | Water Resource Field Intern

Royal loves spending time outside and has done everything he can to work outside too! In the past he has worked for REI as a camp and hike guide primarily out of Yosemite National Park. Afterwards, he worked with the California Conservation Corps where he found a passion for conserving California's natural resources. He and his crew built and maintained several hiking trails throughout the Central Coast, having large projects in Garrapata State Park directly off the PCH and the Kirk Creek Trail stretching far into the backcountry up to Cone Peak. Royal also utilized his camp host experience to organize and plan nine spikes for his crew, including meal plans, equipment lists, and cooking. Other scopes of this job included fuel reduction, native planting, and invasive plant removal. Toward the end of his first year with the CCC, Royal enrolled in the Fisheries Program in which he scoured the San Luis and Chorro creek for trout redds, restored riparian habitats, and nursed countless native plants for such projects. After wading in creeks, Royal found another passion for the conservation of water in our California Watersheds and communities. This has led him to pursue an internship with Watershed Progressive where he brings a varied skill set and hard work ethic! Some of his hobbies include fixing bicycles, finding new music, deepening spirituality, and exploring homeopathy.
